about

For the last couple of years, I’ve been engaged in a little project I call Wake and Tape, where I record a cover song over morning coffee. There are no rules per se, but I guess I’ve had some loose guidelines. I wanted to identify, learn, arrange and record a cover song I’ve never done before. It should be a quick-fire challenge of a recording – maybe an hour or two from start to finish. I play all instruments, and try to be fairly close to the intent and feel of the original. I mostly picked songs outside of my normal strikezone.

What’s the point? I don’t know. Vonnegut said we are put on earth to fart around. I guess there’s benefit to learning more about how to use my recording equipment and Logic Pro models and stuff, and figuring out if I can record for real in this space. I’m getting a little better at playing bass, maybe. But mostly, I do it cause it’s so much fun. Some guys golf, I do this.

So I’m putting them up for free download and streaming on bandcamp. What the heck else am I going to do with them? All these songs were recorded in the last six months or so at the Treehouse in Exeter, NH.
